FORGETTING THE PAST

In the Ancient area of Macedonia, there was a city called Philippi, which was once visited by a man named Paul, who claimed he had experienced a visitation from God. After he left the city he wrote a letter back to them about his walk with God, and he said, “I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God.

ONE THING I DO:

There is power in focusing on one thing. I read in a book by Gary Keller, of a physicist in 2001, who reproduced the falling domino effect, with a slight alteration, he made them from plywood and increased each domino by 50%. In other words, the first domino was 2″tall, and the last was almost 3′ tall. The fall began with a gentile tink & ended with a loud slam.

If this progression continued by the 18th domino, it would knock down something as tall as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The 23rd domino would tower over the Eiffel Tower,

the 31st domino would loom over Mount Everest by 3,000 ft, and number 57 would almost reach the moon!

What if every day we were to put all of our energy into one thing, forgetting those things which are behind and laying hold of the abundant life that God has for each of us?

In another place, this same man, Paul, said, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

I don’t believe a renewed mind is all about whether you go to heaven or hell, but rather, about how much of heaven you will have in your life right now.

A mind is a powerful tool, and negative thinking has to be replaced, think about like this; when you were a kid, you had things drilled into you like, “You kids would drive anybody crazy!” So they believe what their parents tell them and when they grow up, they will act it out.

They’ll drive their spouse crazy, their boss crazy and their children crazy!

Programmed negative thoughts keep you from believing in yourself. Your mind has to be transformed from low self-esteem to high self-esteem. From thinking from a preprogrammed thought life to thinking in line with what the Creator has said about you. Because only the creator of a thing completely understand the thing which he created, and the purpose for which he created it.

This doesn’t mean we forget the good times of the past, but we do lay aside the things in past that would hinder us from moving forward with our lives. Moreover, the only way to forget the things that are behind is to focus on the things that lie before you. Create a vision for your life and plans on how to accomplish it.
